LEAP Mentors share their experiences and knowledge to support high school students from refugee backgrounds develop their understanding of school and university cultures in the Australian context.

"This activity has been approved to be recognised on AHEGS as of October 2018. No retrospective recognition will be made prior to this approval date."

Role description

  • Willing to learn about the refugee experience
  • Available for an interview
  • Available 4 hours per week throughout the Session
  • Available for compulsory online and face-to-face training
  • Prepared to attend focus groups and feedback sessions

AHEGS qualification criteria

  • Participate in 90% of face-to-face mentoring sessions
  • Plan and deliver in-school sessions in line with the position description
  • Complete online training modules
  • Attend one full day of face-to-face training
  • Complete pre and post questionnaire
  • Attend full day of ‘University Experience Day’
