Requirements for graduation

Completing your course
Find more information on the steps required to complete your course in preparation for Graduation.
Completion letter
A Completion Letter will be sent to your email address within three business days after your qualification date via the My eQuals platform.
This letter is a notification of your completion and will state the month and year your award will be conferred. If your award details are incorrect or missing (eg. degree title/majors/specialisation/minors), please contact Service Connect for assistance immediately.
Your Completion Letter is provided in a digital version only. Please contact Service Connect if you have not received it after four business days from qualifying.
The Completion Letter is not a graduation ceremony invitation. You will receive your invitation separately.
If you require a change to your name, please ensure you submit a Change of Personal Details form via Service Connect. Details on what documentation you need to provide can be found in Change of Personal Details articles on the Service Connect Portal.
Degree conferral
What is degree conferral?
Conferral is the official recognition of your graduation—the date on which your degree is formally awarded by the university. Your conferral date is not your graduation ceremony.
- Your conferral month will be listed in your completion letter, which you’ll receive within 3 business days of your qualification date
- We’ll send you a Conferring of Degrees email within one week of your completion letter. This email is not your graduation ceremony invitation, which will be sent once your ceremony is confirmed
- Conferral dates are approved by the University Council.
- Digital documents will be available on My eQuals within 2 weeks of your conferral date. You’ll receive an email notification when your documents are ready
Graduation Invitation
Eligible graduates will receive their ceremony invitation 6–8 weeks before their graduation series. Invitations are sent to your student and personal email, so ensure to keep your contact details up to date. The invitation will include the exact date, time, and details of your graduation ceremony.
If you wish to attend a future ceremony, your hard copy documents must be kept with the Graduations Team.
If you do not wish to attend a future ceremony, you may Graduate in Absentia and receive your documents. You will not be invited to a graduation ceremony if you elect to receive your hard copy documents.
Students who have sanctions (eg. outstanding debts or incorrect USI details) will NOT be invited to a ceremony until their sanction is resolved.
Graduating with a certificate
If you are graduating with a postgraduate certificate, study abroad diploma or certificate, you will not be invited to attend a graduation ceremony. Please refer to your Conferring of degrees email to nominate via the form on how you would like to receive your hard copy graduation documents. If you do not indicate your preference by the deadline specified in the email, we will automatically 'Mail' your documents to the preferred address listed in eStudent.
It is your responsibility to ensure your mailing details are kept current at all times. Ensure you check your preferred postal address on eStudent before completing your course.
