Create healthy and happy experiences

Sexual health support can help you work out what contraception works best for you, how to prevent sexually transmitted infections, get information and help if you experience an unplanned pregnancy, or are concerned you might have an infection.

Free STI testing clinic

MQ Health General Practice offer free, confidential, and non-judgemental Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) checks to Macquarie University students.

Some health advice to consider:

  • All STIs can cause disease and be transferable without producing symptoms
  • Safe sex such as condoms may prevent its transmission
  • Most STIs can be easily treated with medication if caught early but can cause serious issues if not detected and treated.

International students: Make sure to bring your Medibank OSHC member card with you when attending the STI check.

Free Sexual Health Products

Free hygiene products are available in the Macquarie Library bathrooms on Levels 1-4 including sanitary pads, tampons, and condoms.

Free play packs are available for LGBTQIA+ from Acon, an organisation that helps sexuality and gender diverse people take control of their sexual health by providing information, workshops, and a range of support services.

Family Planning NSW’s project, Freedom Condom, provides free condoms, water-based lubricant and sexual health information for NSW young people.

Sexual Health support

A good place to start if you want to talk about your sexual health is with the GP (doctor) clinic at MQ Health.

GPs and registered nurses offer screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and information about contraception and safer sex.

Safer sex

Safer sex is sexual contact where you protect yourself and your sexual partner against sexually transmissible infections (STIs), and also help prevent an unplanned pregnancy. It's your right to ask your partner to practice safe sex.

The most effective protection against many STI's is a barrier like a condom (for a penis or vagina), dental dams or gloves, used with water-based lubricant. Practising safe sex protects you and your partner.
