ABSTUDY payments

If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student, you may be eligible for Centrelink ABSTUDY payments. You can also apply for scholarships on the basis of merit or financial need.

Eligibility

To claim ABSTUDY payments you must be:

  • an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian
  • in an approved course,
  • not getting another payment to study.

What it covers

ABSTUDY can help with your study costs and housing if you need to travel to study. It can help with your costs for the following:

  • study
  • housing
  • living expenses
  • travel to your place of study each term or semester if you need to study away from home

How to claim

To get ABSTUDY, you can claim online, over the phone or with printed forms by the closing date.

Macquarie University Scholarships

Macquarie University offers a range of scholarships for Indigenous students. Most have a strong emphasis on social inclusion and equity and are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or other hardship. Others recognise factors such as academic excellence or sporting achievement.
