Peer Mentor Leader - First STEP Mentoring Program

A Peer Mentor Leader in the First STEP program helps students meet fellow students and Academics within their Faculty. Leaders gain an understanding of campus resources, practice networking and develop communication skills.

"This activity has been approved to be recognised on AHEGS as of April 2018. No retrospective recognition will be made prior to this approval date."

AHEGS qualification criteria

The student must have:

  • held the role for a minimum 12-month tenure
  • attended at least one, 2-hour compulsory training workshop.

They must have also completed their Peer Mentor duties as prescribed in the First STEP Mentoring manual, including:

  • committing 1 hour per Session to reviewing relevant materials on iLearn
  • committing 1.5 hours per Session to the Program Launch
  • forwarding weekly communications around resource support through to mid-session break
  • committing 5 hours per Session to organising student-to-Academic meetings
  • committing 4 hours per Session to organising group meetings
  • demonstrating a commitment to helping their peers.

  • Interpersonal or social capabilities (communication)
  • Personal capabilities (leadership, teamwork and networking)
