MQ Skill Development Program
The MQ Skill Development Program is targeted at second year and penultimate year students from all faculties and disciplines (domestic and international) and allows students to develop their employability and understanding of key employability skills.
This activity has been approved to be recognised on AHEGS as of January 2022. No retrospective recognition will be made prior to this approval date.
The program is based on the flipped classroom approach, where students are required to review learning materials online ahead of each workshop. During each of the 4 workshops participants apply their new knowledge in a practical setting.
This program provides a strong framework for students to develop an understanding of key employability skills required in the workforce.
AHEGS qualification criteria
Participants are required to:
- Attend compulsory workshops as stipulated (4 workshops for the semester program)
- Develop one additional skill in their own free time (to be chosen from the MQ Skill Development Guide)
- Submit 5 reflections on their learnings
Offered in Session 1 & 2 with a total of 20 hours commitment
- Workshops – 12 hours
- Preparation - 4 hours
- Additional tasks: 4 hours
Attributes and skills developed
At the completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Explain why employers are seeking graduates with employability skills
- Explain how they have developed the following employability skills: Self-awareness/ growth and adaptive mindset; teamwork/collaboration; communication; critical thinking; creativity/innovation; problem solving.
- Demonstrate evidence of their development and application in the following skills in an e portfolio: Self-awareness/growth and adaptive mindset; EI; teamwork/collaboration; communication; critical thinking; creativity/innovation; problem solving.
- Demonstrate evidence of their development and application in one additional MQ skill (from the MQ Skills Development Guide) and explain why they chose that skill.
