American Australian Association Scholarship
Since 2002, American Australian Association (AAA) scholarships and grants have provided support to the next generation of Australian, Indigenous Australian, American and Native American individuals to undertake transformational educational study, research and artistic development in each other’s country.
Each year, the AAA hosts two application rounds (one in each direction) for their Graduate Education Scholarships, Veterans’ Scholarships and Arts Scholarships and Grants.
Australia to USA: Opens for application on February 1 each year.
USA to Australia: Opens for application on September 1 each year.
The general eligibility requirements for each category are outlined below. Please follow the additional links to the AAA website, as application requirements and eligibility may vary. There are multiple funding opportunities available in each category.
Graduate Education Scholarships
- Provides support of up to US $40,000 for one-year of full-time Graduate level study or research (PhD, Post-Doctoral, Masters) in the country of the other;
- Applicants must be in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, sustainability, medicine, health or journalism (journalism scholarship only offered in AUS to USA direction);
- Applicants must have an offer from an accredited institution at the time of application.
- Provides support of up to US $40,000 to honorably discharged post 9/11 military veterans, undertaking or interested in undertaking, Undergraduate or Graduate level study for one-year full-time in the country of the other;
- Applicants may be studying in any disciplinary field;
- Applicants do not have to have an offer from an accredited institution at the time of application, but must be actively looking for a placement abroad.
- Provides support of up to US $30,000 to emerging and early-career artists pursuing or wishing to pursue professional development in the country of the other;
- Applicants may be in the fields of theater, film, television, dance, music, visual arts, design, literature, photography and fashion;
- Applicants must have an official offer into the professional development course/project/internship/mentorship at the time of application.

Eligibility criteria
Eligibility requirements vary depending on the scholarship or grant. Please visit the AAA website for eligibility information.
The general eligibility is listed below:
- Applicants must be an Australian or US citizen or permanent resident (dual citizens or permanent residents to both US and Australia are not eligible);
- Applicants must have a formal letter of offer into the accredited institution, program or course, in the country of the other, at the time of application (unless applying for a Veteran Scholarship or the Indigenous Education Scholarship);
- If applying for any Indigenous Scholarship, applicants must be a recognized member of a Native American, Alaskan Native or Native Hawaiian community.
Scholarship funds may be used to support travel, living, tuition or other associated educational costs.
