Deferring your graduation

If you can’t attend your allocated ceremony, you can apply to defer your ceremony to a December series.

To be eligible to defer you must have:

  • received your Graduation Invitation
  • not been previously deferred
  • compelling personal, medical, cultural or academic reasons

You can request to defer your graduation through the Graduation Portal. You'll get access to the Graduation Portal when you receive your Graduation Invitation (sent 6-8 weeks before your ceremony).

Once you have requested to defer, you cannot attend your original ceremony.

If you request to defer your graduation ceremony and it is approved, you will then be invited to attend a ceremony in December only - you can’t elect to attend other ceremonies during the year.

You can NOT defer your ceremony if you have already requested to Graduate in Absentia.
