Spend your winter break to study COMP344 in China with some cultural exploration, try your hand at Chinese and get a head start on COMP344 (E-Commerce Technology).

Program Overview

This is a three-week program in one of top-ten universities in China, including the study of 1st half unit of COMP344 together with local students, Chinese language lessons for absolute beginners, and cultural exchange activities.

Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) is one of top ten universities in China. Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province and its culture has been strongly influenced by Russia since it became a city in about 1898. Harbin was also an important city in Manchuria.

Financial Support

$3,000 per Australian student are available from the New Colombo Plan (NCP) initiative run by the Commonwealth Government. Macquarie has 6 of these grants to provide to participating students. Students must be an Australian citizen to qualify for an NCP grant.

$1,000 per international student or permanent resident are provided by Macquarie University to participate in this activity.

Program Fees
  • Return airfare: approx. $1,500
  • Visa: $110 (approx.)
  • Learning program: Pay normal tuition fee for the enrolment in COMP344 at Macquarie University
  • Accommodation: Twin-share accommodation to be covered by HIT
  • Other costs: approx. $200 Total cost excl. tuition fee (subject to final airfare confirmation) will be approximately $1,810. Other costs include local transport, entrance fees for specified cultural activities.

Travel Insurance

  • You will be fully covered under the university’s travel insurance policy for the duration of the official trip.
  • If you decide to return to Sydney later then you are obliged to purchase your own travel insurance for the additional time period beyond 20th July.

  • Basically ISYS358 can be waived directly.
  • Students currently enrolled in COMP249 can request for exemption of COMP249 for enrolment in COMP344.
  • Applications for exemption of units can lodged via ask.mq.edu.au.
  • Suggestions will be provided to students who have expressed interest.

  • Successful applicants will be notified in early May and invited to a pre-departure information session.
  • Express your interest by early May 2019
  • Student selection and notification by the mid of May 2019
  • Submit visa application by 1st June, 2019
