Established in 1918 by visionaries including Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud and Martin Buber, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) is Israel’s premier academic and research institution and is consistently ranked among the top universities worldwide. Welcoming 23,000 students from 70 countries, the university is well-known as a leading institution for research and professes excellence in a wide range of fields predominantly in agriculture, environmental quality, public health, science and technology. In the last decade, faculty and alumni have won seven Nobel Prizes.

1) Conflict Resolution from Theory to Practice: Israel as a Case Study
How are societies and people influenced by longstanding conflict? In this course, you will explore the violent, unremitting nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how it has shaped Israeli society. Together, we will discuss topics such as Jerusalem’s fate, the Palestinian refugees, the settlements, and security concerns. Most importantly, we will build a multilayered perspective on conflict resolution efforts through examination of the Oslo peace process and other past and present activities by the Israeli peace camp.

2) Breakthrough Technologies: Shaping the Future

  • Discover the latest developments in clean tech, 3D printing, neuroscience, robotics, nanotech, biomedicine, genetics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous transportation.
  • Understand the impact of technology on human evolution.
  • Meet pioneering scientists and thinkers, innovative researchers, leading executives, and industry experts.
  • Be better prepared to recognize the opportunities and face the challenges of emerging technologies.

This course will take you behind the scenes on visits to cutting-edge research institutes and Israel’s top tech companies. Together, we’ll investigate the latest developments in technology (including internet and artificial intelligence, agriculture and food, water and energy, transportation, medicine and healthcare and security.

3) Start-Ups and Innovation: The Israeli Model
In this unique course, you'l learn from the insights of Israel’s most successful innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs. You’ll meet face-to-face with renowned start-up founders and mentors, well-known angel and venture capital investors, executives and founders of high-tech companies, R&D staff at multinational corporations, and prominent industry figures.You'll study practical models and tools that are essential to creating a successful start-up, analyze the development of innovative ventures and acquire a toolkit of valuable knowledge and skills.

  • Nomination from Macquarie University
  • English language proficiency for non-native speakers
  • Review the course information and restricted courses to check it is suitable for your degree progression at Macquarie University

Important notes:

Application Fee and Payment Options: For all exchange programs (semester and short term), there is a compulsory application fee. For more information and payment options please refer to the Payment Website.

Insurance: It is a requirement of the exchange program that all students must purchase their own travel insurance to cover them for the duration of their entire journey overseas. More information will be given to students upon acceptance.

Program Costs: You will pay fees directly to the host university as this is a study-abroad program. You must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country. For further information about your visa restrictions please contact the consulate or embassy of your host country.
