Short Term Language Exchange - Tokyo Metropolitan University (January)

This program offers Macquarie University’s Japanese Studies students the chance to undertake an intensive period of study at Tokyo Metropolitan University. Completion of this residential short unit will allow students to gain credit towards their Japanese Studies major while experiencing life in a truly global city. In the past TMU was offering intermediate level classes but is now offering three different levels.

The program aims at providing a comprehensive introduction to Japanese language and culture.
Students will develop their language skills, experience both traditional and pop culture in Japan, and increase their understanding of the Japanese society.

Course Information

Please visit this page for more information. This program has been designed for strong Intermediate (200 level) JPS students.

Students will receive 51 hours of Japanese language class including project work, 6 hours of Japan Studies*, and 12 hours of field trips*. Students will be evaluated according to class participation, project work, presentation and quizzes.

Accommodation

Accommodation details are subject to change. Students will reside in private single rooms (with en-suite) at the Hashimoto Park Hotel. Students. Rooms are furnished with air-con, desk and chair, closet, refrigerator, TV, and Wi-Fi connection.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • Enrolled into an undergraduate degree at Macquarie
  • Have successfully completed at least Japanese Studies 1 and be enrolled and on track to complete Japanese Studies 2
  • Students must have minimum WAM of 60 at time of assessment
  • Completed a minimum 40 credit points at time of departure
  • Satisfy other criteria specified in the Student Exchange Policy

Important notes:

Other costs: Return airfare and any additional leisure travel undertaken.

Insurance: Travel insurance policy covering the student from the day s/he departs Australia until s/he returns.

Program Costs: Standard cost of enrolment at Macquarie into a Japanese residential shell unit. TMU Program Fee this fee is payable to TMU after acceptance. Approx. This fee of Japanese Yen ¥105,000 will cover the cost of accommodation, teaching materials and field trips.
