Nick De Bres: NCP Scholar 2019
Nick de Bres is a current Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws Student and was selected to be an NCP Scholar for 2019.
Where did you choose to go for your NCP program?
Nick: I set off on an incredible, fully immersive four month exchange to the Universiti of Brunei Darussalam, where I was selected as the NCP Fellow for Brunei Darussalam.
As part of the NCP Scholarship program, what other experiences did you participate in apart from the study component?
During this experience I was able to continue my work in the disability sector as a Volunteer Teacher at SMARTER Autism Brunei, travel to nearby Malaysia, as well as foster my interest in diplomacy through participating in diplomatic events as a mentee of H.E. Nicola Rosenblum, Australia’s High Commissioner to Brunei.
Although Brunei Darussalam was your primary destination, did you travel to any other countries as part of your NCP Scholarship program?
I also undertook an intellectually stimulating two month internship in corporate sustainability at KPMG Singapore, and travelled to nearby Indonesian islands.
Overall, how would you describe the impact of the NCP Scholarship program to future applicants?
One thing I can guarantee is that the impact of the NCP stretches far beyond the Program itself - for me, this is perhaps best evidenced in my previously unthinkable recent holiday to Pakistan with two amazing friends I made in Brunei.
