The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a publicly-funded autonomous university in Singapore. Founded in 1905, it is the oldest institute of higher learning (IHL) in Singapore, as well as the largest university in the country in terms of student enrolment and curriculum offered. NUS is a research-intensive, comprehensive university with an entrepreneurial dimension.

NUS is consistently ranked as one of Asia's top universities in various league tables such as the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. NUS fared well in the 2015-16 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, coming in 26th in the world and 1st in Asia. Alternatively, the ARWU ranking system published by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy that measures universities academic achievements and research performance consistently places NUS in the range of 100–150 worldwide and 1st in Singapore.

This short term exchange program is called National University of Singapore Enterprise Summer Program. Conducted over two weeks, this residential programme offers a unique opportunity for local and foreign participants to learn about how one of the smaller nations in the world has progressed from a trading port to a destination for international commerce and investment. Besides being a dynamic and globally connected city-state, Singapore is also ranked as one of the most competitive economies globally.

Using an enriching combination of lectures, in conversation with start-ups, ideation and pitching, as well as visits to business and government organisations, our Summer Programme aims to provide you with a comprehensive educational experience. You will also get to interact with local students in a multi-cultural and cosmopolitan environment, understand how public policies are formulated and gain insights on business practices and entrepreneurship development in Singapore.

The National University of Singapore Enterprise Summer Program is hosted by National University of Singapore (SNU) and the program fee will be funded by our Singapore Alumni. SNU will accept 10 Macquarie students for this program. Candidates need to provide a statement of purpose to apply for this program. Please be advised that the program is not a credit bearing program. But students will gain GL X07 (40 points) from this program.

Fee: $2300 SG (including Breakfast, lunches and Accommodation)
Course Structure:
Structure two themes economics development/entrepreneurship (Small and medium enterprise, start ups)

  • Morning – Workshops and lectures
    • Process starting Singapore
    • Practical entrepreneurship
    • Companies visits - Land transport Gallery, company COMCROP), Hope technic, tour of  Social Enterprises
    • Cultural and Singapore experience – evening Dragon boat
  • Industry Visit -  eco system Singapore and meeting Singaporean entrepreneurship

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must:

  • A cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • Completion of at least 12cp at the time of application. 18cp to go abroad
  • Enough credit points remaining to complete the program
  • Comply with the eligibility criteria outlined in the Student Exchange Policy.

Important notes:

Application Fee and Payment Options: For all exchange programs (semester and short term), there is a compulsory application fee. For more information and payment options please refer to the Cost and Funding Website.
Logistics Fees: No fee
Insurance: It is a requirement of the exchange program that all students must purchase their own travel insurance to cover them for the duration of their entire journey overseas. More information will be given to students upon acceptance.
Program Costs: You remain enrolled at Macquarie University and continue to pay your tuition fees to Macquarie University. As an exchange student you pay no tuition fees to host university. However, you must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country. For further information about your visa restrictions please contact the consulate or embassy of your host country.
