NSW International Student of the Year Award
Macquarie University is looking for nominations to showcase the excellence of our international student community.
The NSW International Student of the Year Award recognises the outstanding contribution international students make to communities in NSW and celebrate excellence in international student community engagement.
We would like to invite international students who are studying at Macquarie University to submit their applications for the NSW International Student of the Year Awards.
The International Students Awards nomination applications must be filled out by Macquarie staff or students on behalf of nominees, or candidates may self-nominate for awards.
Applications will close on 6 August 2024.
Selection criteria
- The nominee must be an enrolled Macquarie University international student (non-Permanent Resident or not a Citizen of Australia).
- The student must hold a valid visa for study and currently living in NSW.
- The nomination must include details and recommendations of two referees who agree to be contacted to provide further information on the nomination.
- International students can nominate as an individual or as a pair (two students). Groups of three or more are ineligible.
- The nominee should be an inspirational role model and can demonstrate an achievement or contribution that adds value to the community through:
- touching the lives of others
- participating in the community
- connecting an ethnic or language community group with the broader NSW community
- volunteering
Students with recent extracurricular achievements or significant contributions to community engagement and volunteering will be viewed favourably.

Selection process
- Students and/or staff will submit their applications to Macquarie University.
- A selection panel will be established to assess the nominations that are submitted by individuals. The panel will make a recommendation to the University regarding which students should be nominated.
- Two students will be nominated to represent Macquarie University for consideration for the NSW International Student of the Year award.
Note: The NSW International Student Awards are not related to academic achievements. The criteria for the awards relate to the impact on the community. This includes the international student community, ethnic community, and the broader NSW community.
The award
The winner of the 2024 NSW International Student of the Year Award in each category will receive:
- an official certificate of achievement and trophy
- $1,000 cash award
- become an NSW International Student Ambassador.
The highly commended recipient of the 2024 NSW International Student of the Year Award in each category will receive:
- an official certificate of achievement
- $500 cash award
- become an NSW International Student Ambassador.
All finalists will receive an official certificate and become part of the NSW International Student Ambassador community.
Application process
Complete the application form and please make sure to submit all the supporting documentation. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
