Covering your medical costs
Medibank is our chosen provider of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), which helps international students cover their medical costs whilst in Australia.
As an international student, you must take out OSHC as a condition of your student visa. We arrange payment of OSHC to Medibank when you pay your fees and before you are issued with your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Need for medical insurance
- Medical treatment in Australia is expensive, and if you have an accident or get sick, insurance will cover many of your expenses.
- OSHC is a mandatory requirement of the student visa and the policy must cover the full length of your visa duration.
Medibank OSHC policy
Macquarie University has partnered with Medibank as our preferred provider to offer a Comprehensive OSHC policy to our students with Single, Couples, Single Parent Families, and Families policy types available. Thanks to this partnership, the waiting periods for pregnancy and birth and associated services are waived for Macquarie students.

Renewing a lapsed policy
If your OSHC membership has expired:
- You are in breach of your student visa
- You are not covered for any medical treatment
If your OSHC is with Allianz and you want to renew your policy with the same company, contact Allianz directly. If you want to renew your policy with Medibank, contact them to get a quote.
Medibank OSHC virtual on campus support
If you have a question about your Medibank OSHC or need help setting up the OSHC App, book an appointment via Zoom to talk to a Medibank advisor. Medibank advisors are available to help you with your queries on Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
You can also call 134148, from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday to access Medibank support.

Doctors on campus
The Macquarie University Medical Service provides a comprehensive general practitioner service to all members of the University community. The MQ Health General Practice is located in Suite 305, Level 3/2 Technology Pl, Sydney NSW 2109. Find the Medical Service on the Campus Map.
You will need your Macquarie University Campus Card as well as your Medibank card to verify you have OSHC when visiting a Medical Service on or off campus.
