iLearn is Macquarie's online platform for your course study material. Follow this guide to learn your way around on iLearn.
The Getting Started - Graduate Research iLearn unit provides guidance and tips for getting ready for your research journey, including:
- Visa and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) requirements
- moving to Sydney and settling in
- enrolling into your program, accessing your campus card and email account
- the campus services and facilities available to you
- what to expect in your first month of candidature
To view this information:
- For MRes, MPhil and PhD students, access the Getting Started - Graduate Research at MQ unit. For Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate of Research students, access the Getting Started in Graduate Research Coursework unit.
- Enter your student OneID username (MQ followed by your student number, eg MQ12345678) and password to log in to iLearn.
If you unable to log into iLearn, ensure you have entered your username and password correctly. Note that both your username and your password are case sensitive. If you still experience difficulties, you should contact the IT Help Desk.
The information below outlines essential preparations for inbound Global PhD students, including reviewing important information, finalising travel arrangements, and meeting any necessary requirements. By following these steps, you’ll be well-prepared for a successful and productive partnership.
The first step is to review the Getting Started - Graduate Research iLearn unit for guidance and tips for getting ready for your research journey, including:
- Visa and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) requirements
- moving to Sydney and settling in
- enrolling into your program, accessing your campus card and email account
- the campus services and facilities available to you
- what to expect in your first month of candidature.
Next, prepare for your arrival:
- Six months prior to your Macquarie on-campus start date, contact the Graduate Research Lifecycle team to request Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
- Pay your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
- Apply for an Australian student visa.
- Contact the Graduate Research Lifecycle team to arrange flights.
You can reach the Graduate Research Lifecycle team via gr.candidatesupport@mq.edu.au.
When you arrive in Sydney:
- Visit the Graduate Research Academy (GRA) with original documents to enrol. The GRA is located on level 2, 16 Wally's Walk (16WW).
- Review the information on the Graduate Research website for important information about getting started on your journey.

In addition to the Getting Started iLearn unit, you should also familiarise yourself with the support and resources available in your faculty.
Your faculty may also organise a welcome event to help you get settled and provide an opportunity to connect with your research community and peers.
