Enrolment, commencement and unit support

The following information is for Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) and Master of Research (MRes) Year 1 candidates only. MRes Y2, MPhil and PhD candidates will be enrolled in their research unit by the Office of Higher Degree Research Training and Partnerships.

Prior to enrolment

Before enrolling into coursework units, BPhil/MRes Y1 candidates must complete the following steps:

Once your Unit Selection form has been approved, proceed to enrol into your units via eStudent. If this is the first time you are using eStudent and you have not activated your student ID yet, click First time login? from the links below the Sign In button on the eStudent webpage. Activate your student ID in the new window before logging in to eStudent. For password and login assistance, please contact the IT Service Desk.

You must enrol only in those units that were approved on your USF by your MRes Advisor/Director. This is to ensure your units form a coherent study plan and that you will meet the minimum requirements of the Year 1 program. Failure to do so may result in delays to your study and subsequent progression to Year 2 of the Master of Research Program.

Once enrolled, we recommend you download and retain a copy of your Enrolment and Registration Advice (ERA) from eStudent. This is a record of your enrolment for the semester. You should proceed to register for your classes in eStudent in order to create your personalised timetable.

eStudent will be a valuable resource throughout your studies at Macquarie University. You will be able to view your fees (or HECS contributions) and examination outcomes on this website. Please note that it is the responsibility of all students to ensure that contact details registered on eStudent are kept up-to-date at all times. For international students, this is a visa requirement.

Changing units

If you wish to make any changes to your units or advanced topics selection within the first 2 weeks of the session, complete a Change of Unit/Advanced Topic form.

You must obtain approval from the MRes Advisor/Director before making any changes to enrolment in eStudent. You must complete any changes before the relevant census date for each session.

If you have questions about scheduling or unit information, contact your Faculty HDR Administration Team. If the change involves more than one discipline/faculty, you will be required to consult with and arrange a signature of approval from both departmental MRes Advisors.

Unique Student Identifier

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference number issued by the Australian Government. If you are commencing in 2021, you must provide us with your USI by the Census Date of your first study period at Macquarie in order to be eligible for CSP or Commonwealth financial assistance.

You can request or recover your Unique Student Identifier via this website: https://www.usi.gov.au/. Once you have done so, you must complete the USI collection form in eStudent before the Census Date. More information about the USI is available.
