Dealing with reverse culture shock

Coming home can be challenging. You may feel disconnected from your family and friends, miss the connections you made overseas or feel a lack of purpose. Here are some tips that will help you settle in.

Tips for settling in back home

Look after yourself

Visit a doctor if you’re feeling unwell upon arrival back home. We also encourage you to contact Student Wellbeing if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Be patient with yourself, your family and your friends

Engage in your favourite hobbies to help settle in. Keep in mind that your friends and family have continued on with their lives while you were overseas, so while they may be interested in listening to your experiences, they may not be able to relate to them.

Add your volunteering experience to your resume

Visit CareerWise for tips on how you can include your experience in your resume.
