Empower female and gender-diverse students with your knowledge
Become a mentor in our Lucy Mentoring Program and help shape the future careers of women and gender-diverse business, science and engineering students.
About Lucy
Lucy is a joint mentoring program in the Macquarie Business School and Faculty of Science and Engineering for currently enrolled students in their second year and above who identify as women or as gender-diverse.
The program empowers students to identify the skills they need to become future leaders and map their career paths by establishing relationships between them and senior executives from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Mentors commit to a minimum of 20 hours of mentoring throughout the program (May – October).
As a mentor, you will:
- guide a motivated leader of the future by sharing your career insights and advice, conducting goal-setting sessions and planning small work-based activities for your mentee such as attending mock interviews, site visits or professional networking events.
- help your mentee improve their networking skills, confidence and awareness of work culture.
- attend the program launch, a mid-session check-in, and end of program event to meet and network with other mentors and mentees.
- learn fresh perspectives, new technologies and new ways of working from your mentee.

- Mentors will be considered based on their industry experience in areas of business, science and engineering.
If you are unsure, please feel free to reach out and we will see if we can match you with one of our students.
Mentors do not have to be based in Sydney, Australia. We value mentors, their experience and contribution to our mentees' learning journey, and as such, encourage offshore mentors to apply too!
You should show a commitment to:
- spending time with your mentee
- sharing your personal and professional experience
- developing the next generation of leaders.
Why become a mentor

- prepare your mentee for their career by encouraging them to think about the range of available career options and explaining ways of overcoming challenges experienced by women and gender-diverse people in the workplace
- share your skills and passion for your industry
- gain positive visibility and demonstrate you can work successfully with the next generation.
