Being a Buddy Team Leader
Buddy Team Leader Role involves planning and leading Buddy Program events/activities, with training and support from Student Engagement, Inclusion and Belonging staff, including:
- facilitating events and activities, including day trips around Sydney and NSW main tourist attractions.
- providing support and advice to other Buddies during events/activities.
- providing peer advice and support to new students.
- reporting to Program Coordinator after event concludes.
- attending team catch up at least fortnightly, and providing feedback and ideas to improve and develop the Buddy Program.
- delivering training to new Buddies.
Responsibilities
Buddy Team Leaders are expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:
- adhere to the Macquarie University Student and Staff Code of Conduct.
- engage and participate in the compulsory trainings and events (listed below)*.
- provide support and guidance to other Buddies, and respond to any incidents that occur in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures.
- provide two-way communication and feedback with the Student Engagement, Inclusion, and Belonging Team.
- regularly contribute to the evaluation, development and recruitment of the Buddy Program.
- commit at least a minimum of 40 hours per study session.
Reporting Relationship
Buddy Team Leaders will report to Student Engagement, Inclusion and Belonging staff who will provide support, guidance, and training.

Role Requirements
Applicants must
- be over 18 years of age
- have successfully completed at least one Session as a Buddy
- be available to come to campus as most of our events are in person
- be enrolled as a student at Macquarie University in Session 1, 2025

- established non-judgemental, respectful and empathetic behaviour
- demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate and professional boundaries
- demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to calmly navigate logistical challenges
- demonstrated knowledge of international student experiences and cross-cultural knowledge
- ability to engage students through initiating and maintaining conversation
- ability to build a good rapport with students and staff and foster an environment where people feel safe and included
- demonstrated leadership skills
- demonstrated ability to provide clear directions and instructions to people in a professional way
