One-on-one tutoring support

The Walanga Muru Tutoring Program program provides both undergraduate and postgraduate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students access to one-on-one tutoring support across all Macquarie faculties.

The purpose of the tutoring program is Commonwealth supported, and it aims to increase educational outcomes in higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Register your interest

Tutoring assistance can be a useful tool for any Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student, whether you have average pass grades or high distinctions.

It's a great way to get individualised assistance in areas that you may need improvement on, such as:

  • specific content
  • referencing
  • academic research processes
  • exam preparation or essay writing skills
  • developing the skills you already have.

Become a tutor

Tutors must:

  • be qualified or working towards qualifications or have relevant industry experience. Formal qualifications from other universities are also considered.
  • feel confident in delivering high-level academic assistance
  • be able to show knowledge of and encouragement to people from diverse cultures, learning abilities, genders, and different age groups.

Current Macquarie University students may apply if they are:

  • in their third year or above
  • able to show evidence of sound academic progress (75 or above in the unit they wish to tutor and generally sound academic performance).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students while supporting their academic needs.
  • Assist students with academic and learning skills development through tutoring and guidance.
  • Work with Academic Engagement Coordinators to ensure student success.
