As you embark on your first year of university, it’s normal to feel a bit overwhelmed and unsure of what to expect, but don't worry - we've got your back! Hear from current students on the tips, tricks and study hacks they’ve learnt from their time at Macquarie University.
2.00pm – 3.00pm : Books and Beyond – Make the most of the Library
The Library is a valuable resource that can significantly contribute to your academic success. More than books - think academic articles, subject collections and referencing help! Learn how you can access reliable information and gain skills to support your academic growth. Come along to explore the great services and support available to you at our university library!
3.00pm – 4.00pm : Responding to Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault
Equip yourself with the knowledge and tools to respond effectively if they or a friend experience sexual harassment or assault. It covers how to address immediate danger, access support for physical and mental health, and navigate reporting options within and beyond the university. Students will also learn how to be a supportive friend, fostering empathy and resilience in challenging situations.

This session will guide you through key study tips, campus resources, and academic tools to help you succeed in your studies. Manawari Training is an interactive and immersive cultural awareness program that explores the rich heritage, traditions, and perspectives of Indigenous Australians. Designed to deepen understanding and foster respectful engagement, the training covers key aspects of Indigenous history, connection to Country, and cultural protocols. Through guided discussions and experiential learning, participants gain valuable insights into Indigenous cultures and communities, building skills for respectful relationships and practices within their personal and professional lives. Manawari Training is an essential step toward creating a culturally inclusive environment that honors and respects Australia's First Nations people.

This workshop is designed to help you overcome your fear and anxiety, improve your delivery style, and engage your audience, learning how to make the most of public speaking for your classes and presentations. Learn tips and tricks from our Student Activators on how to deliver presentations in a compelling and memorable way. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn from your peer experts and take your public speaking skills to the next level.
3.00pm – 4.00pm : Peer Mentoring Kickoff
The Peer Mentor Program at Macquarie University connects new students with experienced mentors who provide support, guidance, and insight into university life. As a new student, you’ll have the chance to meet and sign up with a Peer Mentor, who can help you navigate campus, connect with resources, and feel at home at Macquarie. Building a safer Macquarie community
Safer Communities @ MQ is a mandatory online course for students at Macquarie. The course supports a safer environment by helping you understand consent, respectful relationships, looking out for your peers and how to intervene safely if you witness inappropriate behaviour. Safer Communities @ MQ also provides information about support and reporting services at Macquarie, as well as safe sex education and alcohol and drug safety.
