Pausing your on campus units

Only students enrolled in units with mandatory on campus requirements are able to request a pause in their unit study for Session 2 2021. If your unit is not on the On campus units list, your application to pause your studies will be rejected. To request a pause, you will need to submit your Special Consideration application, via Service Connect, by Friday 22 October 2021.

We recommend you seek advice from your Faculty to make sure you understand the implications of pausing a unit/s before you proceed.

Please read the following before applying.

  • You must complete the unit (“paused” version) in the next available study period (excluding Session 3). Your enrolment will be maintained as a Session 2 2021 unit, meaning that you will not need to re-enrol in this unit to complete the outstanding assessments.
If you do not successfully complete the unit in the next available study period, and you are awarded an F grade, any future enrolment will be into a new version of the unit and you will need to meet all assessment requirements. You will still be able to apply for a Withdraw without penalty in the failed unit.
  • Completing the unit in a future study period may delay your course completion by about 1 year.
  • Students on an international student visa: Your course may take longer to complete, and you may also need a new student visa. If you require a Student Visa Extension, you must apply for a new electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) within 3 months of your current visa expiry. You are responsible for your visa and therefore, you are responsible for your visa renewal.
  • Pausing studies for Session 2 2021 will not transfer your enrolment status or enrolment load for these unit(s) in to 2022. If you are dependent on services (for example Opal transport concession or government payments) which require a full study load, it will be your responsibility to manage your eligibility.
  • If the unit you are pausing is a pre-requisite for another unit you are planning on enrolling in 2022, you will have to apply for a Special Approval waiver. However, please note that this is a separate process and application is not a guarantee for approval.
  • You should consider the impact on your enrolment for next year, particularly in instances where your Special Approval waivers are not approved, as you may need to change your enrolment plans. Students in professionally accredited courses are likely to find that waivers will not be approved and will have little to no units available to study in 2022 while they complete the paused unit.
  • You should consider the impact on your planned enrolments for next year as this may change the workload you would be undertaking. Whilst you have studied most of the unit already, when you next study it, you need to consider how you will revisit key concepts and material. Do NOT underestimate the workload required to become familiar again with the unit and complete all necessary requirements, particularly if you are taking a full-time study load in the next session and/or have been advised to take a reduced study load.
  • Should your pause be approved, the next step will be the preparation of an individual completion plan. This will be an agreement on what you have completed and what is required to be completed in 2022 to meet the learning outcomes of the unit. As there will be a delay between studying the content this year, and completing the mandatory on campus requirements next year, it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have refreshed this information prior to attending the mandatory on campus requirements or final assessments for next year.
  • In 2022 the remaining content to complete the unit may be delivered across the session. The S2 2021 delivery was not a normal delivery of the unit due to COVID restrictions, with the on campus components moved to the end of the session. In 2022 the on campus component may be spread across the duration of the session, and you may be expected to engage throughout the session.
