Looking back on Harmony Week

7 April 2021

At Macquarie, we are proud of our cultural diversity. That is why everyone belongs at Macquarie no matter what cultural background you come from.

The 22nd of March marked the beginning of Harmony Week – a week dedicated to celebrating diversity and inclusion at Macquarie.

For five days, our students and staff were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultural experiences.

On campus, our community had the chance to try new cuisines at our cultural food stalls on 18 Wally’s Walk. Also, some of our culture-specific student groups got to share information on their events and activities and helped us have a glimpse of cultural wonders from several countries around the globe.

Harmony week also took place online; our Peer Mentors took us on a virtual tour around the world where students got to talk and learn about different countries and their culture, food and costumes.

One of the highlights of this week-long celebration was the Harmony Day Design Competition, which allowed our community to represent what belonging at Macquarie truly means through art. The contributions from our community were outstanding! Check out the winning designs (link to Competition article).

Thank you to everyone who organised and attended our Harmony Week events on campus and online. It was wonderful to see our community come together and celebrate diversity and inclusion at Macquarie!
