A day in Anushiya's life during lockdown

29 September 2021

Hi, my name is Anushiya and I’m a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) student! Today I’ll be taking you through a day in my life as an MQ student during lockdown.

7.30am – 8am: Getting up

My day starts at around 7.30am. I like to wake up at this time because it gives me extra time to get organised for the rest of the day without needing to rush through the morning before I start work at 9am. Besides, I always think that it’s nice to reserve weekends for sleeping in – that way, you know you’ve earned it!

8am – 9am: Breakfast and getting organised

After I eat breakfast – today it’s pancakes and the obligatory cup of Dilmah tea – I listen to some music while I read the morning’s news and check my emails and iLearn announcements. Since I’m currently working on an assignment, I also use this time to read through and edit what I’ve already written.

9am – 1pm: Working from home

For the past year, I’ve been fortunate enough to work within the Student Web Project team here at Macquarie! We’ve been working to optimise the Student Website for Macquarie students. Since we’re all working at home at the moment there is no need for the usual commute to uni. Instead, I log in to Microsoft Teams to get a daily briefing on the tasks I need to complete for the day – one of which is this very article I am writing!

1pm – 2pm: Lunch break

After work, I take a break. This usually involves eating my lunch and falling down the YouTube rabbit hole. I also like to take this time to stretch and walk around my house.

2pm – 4.30pm: Studying

After lunch, I spend time writing my assignment and listening to lectures.

4.30pm – 6pm: Walking

After my study session, I go out for a walk with my mum around our local suburb. Aside from getting exercise and some fresh air, one of the other benefits of being outside is that it’s an opportunity to give my eyes a rest from continuous screentime. It's also the perfect opportunity for dog watching!

6.30pm – 8pm: Relaxing

After I complete some household chores and eat my dinner, I usually take some time out to relax by watching a movie or tv show. Tonight, my mum and I are watching one of our favourite comedies, ‘Superstore’.

8pm – 9pm: Studying

I spend a bit more time working on my assignment.

9pm – 10pm: Unwinding and going to bed

During this time, I like to unwind and disconnect from technology by reading a book. I try to avoid looking at my phone before going to bed because it usually prevents me from getting a good night’s rest. On weekdays I usually fall asleep by 10pm so I can wake up fresh and alert the next morning.
