Wellbeing Week recap: 6 September to 10 September 2021

Wellbeing Week was an opportunity for you to take charge and try a range of live and on-demand activities that can help you take charge of your physical and emotional wellbeing.

What does Wellbeing mean?

Students were asked to reflect of what wellbeing means to them. Watch the video to get some tips on how to:

  • Take notice and reflect on your current health and wellbeing.
  • Test new, fun and free activities and strategies to improve both your mental and physical health.
  • Reconnect with your support networks and know where to get help if you need it.

Here's a quick recap on all the live events and activities that were part of Wellbeing Week 2021:

  • R U OK? Day: During Wellbeing Week we celebrated R U OK? Day – that aimed to raise mental health awareness by encouraging you to have conversations that could save a life. Find out how to recognise the signs of someone who may be going through a difficult time and how to ask, “Are you OK?”, by viewing this R U OK? video [Youtube video].
  • Free online gym classes to help you exercise, practise Yoga or start a new HIIT routine from the comfort of your home were held via the Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre Facebook page
  • Discord Events with the Macquarie Association of Computing Students | Monday 6 September – Friday 10 September, 7.30pm, Online.
  • Let's talk about our feelings: Organised by student volunteers and staff, this event encouraged starting a conversation around feelings | Tuesday 7 September, 10am – 10.45am, Online and Wednesday 8 September, 3pm – 3.45pm, Online
  • Peaceful hangout with the MQ Persian Society |  Wednesday 8 September, 6pm - 7pm, Online
  • How to ask "Are you ok?": This free webinar, organised by the RUOK? organisation featured media personalities and experts to teach how to ask "Are you really OK?" | Thursday 9 September, 12.30pm – 1.30pm
  • Managing Your Mindset in the Workplace: WEB (Women Entering Business) highlighted the significance of mental health and well-being in the workplace | Thursday 9 September, 1pm – 2pm, Online
  • Stir fry cooking class with Campus Life Head Chef - Housein: This free cooking class with Campus Life's Head Chef - Housein taught students how to cook a simple and healthy stir fry in just 30 mins. | Thursday 9 September, 2pm – 3pm, Online
  • Healthy Mind with Sydney Football Club: Study NSW organised the new Wellbeing at Home series for students with Sydney FC and Australian International Sports Organisation, to help students receive tailored, expert advice and inspiration from elite athletes on how to stay healthy and resilient. | Thursday 9 September, 5pm – 6pm, Online
  • Let's discuss about wellbeing with the MQ Cambodian Society | Thursday 9 September, 8pm – 9pm, Online
  • It's time for some Pawsome Therapy!:  This event was organised by Delta Therapy Dogs and volunteers on the importance of mental and physical wellbeing | Friday 10 September, 1pm – 1.30pm, Online via zoom
