Use your experiences to help new students

Become a Peer Mentor or Peer Leader, and help first year students transition into university life.

Volunteer with us

Volunteering at Macquarie s a great way to contribute to Macquarie’s community, have fun, and gain invaluable skills that will contribute to your employability.

Our Peer Mentor program has two levels of volunteering available to any currently enrolled student that has completed at least one session of study at Macquarie:

  • Peer Mentors who guide new students and facilitate events and programs to help students transition to uni life in their first session
  • Peer Leaders who coach our Peer Mentors and run peer-led events and programs to build student community, with a particular focus on orientation and transition periods (first seven weeks of session).

Become a Peer Mentor

With your personal experience as a student and the training you’ll receive, you’ll be able to answer most questions new students have about Macquarie or refer them to someone who can. We'll teach you how to facilitate and lead small group activities to help new students build a sense of belonging and connection to the Macquarie community.

Benefits

Our hands-on training helps you develop essential soft skills that employers look for in graduates, such as:

  • leading others
  • presentation skills
  • problem-solving abilities
  • effectively working in a team
  • communicating effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

Training

To help you succeed in your role, we provide:

  • comprehensive induction training, with a focus on mentoring and how to facilitate interactive live and virtual events
  • strengthening of communication skills, particularly in the online environment
  • deep working knowledge of university services and supports, and how to appropriately refer students to these services
  • access to exclusive networking, ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • opportunities to meet new people, make friends and network with Macquarie and industry professionals.

Certificate of recognition

When you complete our program, you’ll receive a Certificate of Service, be eligible for GLP (Global Leadership Program) points, and recognition on your AHEGS (Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement).
