Volunteering at Macquarie is a great way to contribute to Macquarie’s community, have fun, and gain invaluable skills that will contribute to your employability.
Become a Peer Mentor
With your personal experience as a student and the training you’ll receive, you’ll be able to answer most questions new students have about Macquarie or refer them to someone who can. We'll teach you how to facilitate and lead small group activities to help new students build a sense of belonging and connection to the Macquarie community.

Training
To help you succeed in your role, we provide:
- comprehensive induction training, with a focus on mentoring and how to facilitate interactive live and virtual events
- strengthening of communication skills, particularly in the online environment
- deep working knowledge of university services and supports, and how to appropriately refer students to these services
- access to exclusive networking, ongoing training and professional development opportunities
- opportunities to meet new people, make friends and network with Macquarie and industry professionals.
Certificate of recognition
When you complete our program, you’ll receive a Certificate of Service, be eligible for GLP (Global Leadership Program) points, and recognition on your AHEGS (Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement).
Eligibility
To be considered as a Peer Mentor in Session 1 2025 you need to:
- have successfully completed at least one session of study at Macquarie
- plan to enrol in at least one unit for Session 1 2025
- be passionate about improving the new student experience.
We expect you'll:
- commit to your role, and all required training, for one study session (defined as February 2025 – June 2025)
- provide regular, proactive and responsive contact with mentees in both formal (one-to-one) and the community mentoring phases
- actively support and participate in peer-led events and professional development opportunities
- contribute to the continuous improvement of the program, and your Peer Leaders, as required by the Mentors Team.

Peer Leader
Are you a returning Mentor?
Have you participated in another volunteer program at Macquarie?
You can become a Peer Leader!
As a Peer Leader, you’ll bring your expertise as an experienced Peer Mentor and passion for capacity building and working with others. You’ll have access to exclusive professional development pathways and ongoing training, as well as significant input into our program design - in particular, the peer-led events and training for our Peer Mentors.
With your previous volunteer experience and the training, you’ll receive, you’ll be able to guide your small Peer Mentor team and provide ongoing coaching to assist in their development. You’ll also be able to create and implement small group activities and learn to facilitate, delegate and evaluate the performance of your team and the success of events you’ll be responsible for.
