Get Stata on your computer

Stata is a complete, integrated statistical software package that provides all your data science needs. It is fast, accurate and easy to use for data manipulation, visualisation, statistics, and automated reporting.

Stata/MP2 will cater for 120,000 variables and 20 billion observations, drawing on 2-cores of your computer. If you are looking for a faster Stata package and have a computer with more than 2-cores, contact Survey Design and Analysis Services directly for a personal purchase.

Download and install Stata/MP2 17

  1. Download Stata (858MB) and the license file to your PC using your OneID username and password.
  2. Once both files are downloaded, right-click on the “stata-license” ZIP folder and click on “Extract All”. This will show you the stata.lic file.
  3. Double click on the downloaded "SetupStata17.exe" file to run the installer.
  4. During the installation process, you will be prompted to 'Choose the edition that matches your license'. Please select 'StataMP', then continue the installation as usual. Do not run Stata yet. Please ensure you install Stata into Program files NOT Program Files (x86) or any other location.
  5. Copy the stata.lic license file (that you extracted in step 2) into the same directory as the Stata installation directory (Default: C:\Program Files\Stata17).
  6. You now run Stata on your device.
  1. Download Stata (1.45GB) and the license file to your Mac  using your OneID username and password.
  2. Double click on the downloaded "Stata17.dmg" file to open it.
  3. Double click on the "Install Stata" icon to run the installer.
  4. During the installation process, you will be prompted to select an 'Installation Type'. Please select 'Stata/MP', then continue the installation as usual. Do not run Stata yet.
  5. Copy the license file (stata.lic) into the same directory as the Stata application folder. This should be located within your 'Applications' folder (open a Finder window, click the 'Go' menu at the top of the screen and select 'Applications').
  6. You now run Stata on your device.
