Access financial support during lockdown

If you need extra financial support during lockdown, apply for one of the following financial support initiatives.

Financial support vouchers

Macquarie is offering financial assistance vouchers worth $250 to current students in the following groups.

Domestic students

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Low socio economic (LSES) background
  • Regional, rural, or remote background
  • LSES and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, Migrant or Refugee background
  • Students with accessibility needs
  • Receiving an Equity scholarship
  • Receiving a Centrelink payment

International students

To be eligible, you need to be currently enrolled in Session 2 units at Macquarie and located in Australia. You should be able to demonstrate that you are experiencing financial hardship.

Note: You can only receive this voucher once.

To help ensure that your form is considered:

  • Read the form carefully and fill in all the required fields.
  • Use your student email address and check your student emails regularly.
  • Ensure that your address and contact details in eStudent are up to date, so we can get in touch with you if needed.

Food hampers

The University offers food hampers provided by Oz Harvest to students who live within 5km radius of North Ryde campus. Domestic and International students are eligible. The hamper distribution is in front of MUSE (18 Wally’s Walk) every Friday from 12.30pm to 2pm. No registration is required.

Student loans and grants

Student loans and grants are available for amounts of up to $2000. Loans and grants can only be used for educational items and are not meant for ongoing financial support. Review the policy on the student loans and grants page or contact Student Wellbeing for an appointment to discuss lodging an application.

Find employment

Working while studying can be a good way to earn some money. Keep an eye on offers available and get in touch with Macquarie Student Employment Service.

Other support available to students

Payment plans are available for students who can’t make full payment of up-front tuition fees (at no charge) by contacting Finance through AskMQ.

Student Wellbeing is available to discuss your concerns about finances, help develop a plan, and provide information about what can help. Submit your enquiry via the CARE Report form.

Previous financial support initiatives

  • Almost 9000 Macquarie students have been supported via the MQSSSP
  • Almost $13 million has been provided
  • Students most in need are always given priority access to support
  • Around 90% of applicants have received some form of support under the SSSP
  • Around 70% of applicants are from international students
  • Student Representative Committee (SRC) contributed $40,000 to support students who experience hardship due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021. The funds will go towards emergency vouchers.

These initiatives are funded by Macquarie University, the Student Representative Committee (SRC) and the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
