The HDR Learning Skills iLearn unit holds recordings & slides from HDR workshops and seminars which have been presented at Macquarie University.Announcements of new courses and workshops are also made from this unit. Use your MQ OneID to self-enrol.

Academic Literacy for Research Students:

A self paced online unit

Use your MQ OneID to self-enrol into the Academic Literacy for Research Students online unit designed to help HDR candidates improve their academic writing. While the focus is on writing in the social sciences, the content will also be useful to HDR candidates in the humanities and sciences.

Vitae: realising the potential of researchers: This set of resources on the Vitae website provides advice, courses and communities related to doing a PhD, supervising a PhD or working as a member of research staff.

Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL): Need to brush up your English grammar? This site provides accessible instruction and online activities to improve your academic writing.

Online video tutorials

The Macquarie University library holds a subscription to Lynda.com, a collection of thousands of "how to" video courses on all sorts of skills, many of which are useful for research candidates.

Each course is composed of several short (typically 3-8 minute) video tutorials, and is self paced, so you can schedule the tutorials around your research and teaching commitments.
