Annual Progress Report

Annual Progress Report

The Annual Progress Report (APR) allows the University to monitor and evaluate your progress, to ensure a quality and timely completion of the research program. It allows you and your supervisor(s) to reflect on your progress and plan for the year ahead. You should use the Annual Progress Report to identify any difficulties you have experienced which has or may impact your research, to indicate if you need an extension of scholarship and to request any training programs you may require.

If your Faculty indicates your progress as satisfactory, your candidature and scholarships will continue. The progress report is also reviewed during consideration of a candidate's request for Postgraduate Research Funding (PGRF) support.

Note also that other higher degree research progress reports may be required (such as the Confirmation of Candidature), as well as faculty specific progress reports. Please contact your Faculty HDR Office or Department if you are unsure of these additional reporting requirements.

Who needs to complete the Annual Progress Report?

Completion of the APR is mandatory for all currently enrolled PhD and MPhil candidates (but not for MRes candidates). This includes students who have been asked to 'revise and resubmit' their thesis (major/minor changes are excluded).

You do not need to complete the Annual Progress Report if any of the following apply:

  • You enrolled after 31 July 2018
  • You have been on a continuous Leave of Absence since 1 January 2018
  • You submitted your thesis to HDRO on or before 18 September 2018
  • You notified the University of your complete withdrawal from your degree on or before 18 September 2018.

Failure to complete the APR may result in a departmental review, including the suspension of scholarship. This is outlined in the Universities Policies which can be accessed by clicking here. If you are unable to submit by the due date or are unable to submit online, you must contact your Faculty HDR Manager and HDRO immediately.
