Your responsibilities as a mentor

A graduate research mentor can play an important role in the academic, professional and social life in the research community by following the core values and ethics of Macquarie University.

Academic role

Graduate research mentors share their academic journey and normalise the HDR experience. Graduate research mentors provide this via one-to-one peer support and also by being active in creating and supporting different academic events to enhance the graduate research community.

Professional role

The professional role of a graduate research mentor may include linking up HDR candidates with professional networks eg alumni, external organisations, and global universities.

Social role

A graduate research mentor can play an important role in creating a sense of belonging to the wider research community, through organising and participating in social events.
