The Master of Research (MRes) is Macquarie University's two year (equivalent full-time) research training pathway program to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Philosophy (MPhil).
Domestic candidates
Master of Research - Year 2
If you are a domestic candidate (Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent resident) who has received a Master of Research Yr 2 offer, you will need to complete the following to accept your offer:
- In order to accept your offer, please complete the Acceptance Pack [PDF 697KB] and return it to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au by the deadline in your offer letter.
- Once you have accepted your offer, please download and read/complete the following:
- Research Enrolment Form [PDF 425KB] - This will need to be completed and returned to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au at least 2 weeks before the start of the session you are commencing in. Note that Session 1 commences on 1st January and Session 2 commences on 1st July.
- Assignment of IP Form [PDF 295KB]- This must be completed by all candidates. We are unable to enrol you without a completed form. Please send the completed form to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au. If you have a question regarding Intellectual Property, please email ip@mq.edu.au.
- Living Allowance Claim Form [PDF 81KB] (for stipend recipients only) - You must read the Conditions of Award before completing your Living Allowance Claim Form. Once completed it should be emailed to hdrschol@mq.edu.au.
Candidates must submit completed forms to the OHDRTP. You will be enrolled with a commencement date of 1st January (session 1) or 1st July (session 2). The OHDRTP will commence enrolment as of these dates, and you will receive a confirmation email once your enrolment has been finalised.
International candidates
Master of Research - Year 1
If you are an international candidate who has received a Master of Research Year 1 offer, you will need to complete the following to accept your offer:
- In order to accept your offer, please complete the Acceptance Pack [PDF 324KB] and return it to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au by the deadline in your offer letter.
- Once you have sent us your Acceptance Pack/CoE Request form (including OSHC payment and Commencement Fee), we will issue you with a CoE document that will enable you to apply for the Student Visa (subclass 500).
- When you have been issued a student visa, please send a copy of your visa to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au . This will trigger the pre-enrolment preparation process for International students.
As enrolment takes place after you arrive at Macquarie University we would encourage you to arrive at our office at least 2 weeks before the start of session so that you can get your units organised and be settled in Sydney before enrolment.
Note: Remember to bring along all the original or certified academic transcripts copies (for every degree/qualification), as well as the original or certified testamur of your qualifications along with your passport and visa to Macquarie University. Enrolment cannot proceed without verification of these documents.
Session 1 2021 classes commence Monday 22 February 2021.
Master of Research - Year 2
If you are an International candidate who has received a Master of Research Yr 2 offer, you will need to complete the following to accept your offer:
- In order to accept your offer, please complete the Acceptance Pack [PDF 324KB] and return it to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au by the deadline in your offer letter.
- COVID update: As Australia's borders remain closed to non-citizens, if you are offshore, you and your supervisor will need to complete the Statement from Supervisor – Offsite Commencement of Research [PDF 61KB]. This should be submitted along with your acceptance documents. We understand that some research is not suitable to be completed offshore. If the latter is the case then please email hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au requesting a deferral.
- Note: Before you accept your offer you must read the MRES Fee and Refund Guide [PDF 463KB] to ensure you understand both your obligations and the university's, regarding tuition fees. If you are in receipt of a Macquarie University or Commonwealth funded scholarship you must also read the Conditions of Award.
- Once you have sent us your Acceptance Pack/CoE Request form (including OSHC payment and Commencement Fee), HDRO will issue you with a CoE that will enable you to apply for your Student Visa (subclass 500). You should do this even if commencing off-site so that you are ready to travel when borders re-open.
- When you have been issued a student visa, please send a copy of your visa to hdr.admissions@mq.edu.au.
- Four (4) weeks before your program commences, the OHDRTP will email you with further information on the documentation we require to process your enrolment.
If onshore in Australia: As enrolment takes place after you arrive at Macquarie University we would encourage you to arrive in Sydney at least 1-2 weeks before the start of session so that you can get settled before enrolment. Please come to the OHDRTP reception for enrolment.
Note: Remember to bring along all the original or certified academic transcripts copies (for every degree/qualification), as well as the original or certified testamur of your most recent qualification to Australia for your enrolment. Enrolment cannot proceed without verification of these documents.
For MRes Yr 2 candidates, Session 1 commences from 1st January and Session 2 commences from 1st July.
