Applying for special approval (waiver)
If you are unable to enrol into a required (core) unit and eStudent displays the message 'Unsatisfied requisite', you might need to apply for special approval to enrol into that unit.
There are two types of special approval (waiver) requests:
1. Units requiring waivers
- prerequisite is a unit, a requirement or condition you need to complete/satisfy before you enrol
- corequisite is a unit you must complete prior to or concurrently with another unit.
2. Permission by special approval
Special approval is required for some special units, such as research projects, PACE units or special interest topics.
Before applying for a special approval
Be aware that the requests below do not fall under special approval (waivers):
- to study more than the maximum number of credit points in a study period
- requesting additional space on your study plan
- recognition of prior learning
- alternative arrangements for your PACE unit.
Quick tip: there is a separate process for special approval for
- MMBA8155 – Advanced MBA Internship: Connecting Knowledge and Impact
- MQBS8090 – Business Internship
- MQBS3000 – PACE: Student Leadership in Community Engagement.
To be eligible you must:
- complete the unit as a requirement of your course, or as part of a Course Transfer
- have enough space on your study plan
Timelines for special approval application
You'll need to submit your special approval request between the opening and closing timeframes (AEDT) for your study period. Unfortunately, requests submitted outside of this timeframe can't be processed, so make sure you apply on time.
Processing can take up to 15 business days, provided all required documents have been submitted.
