COVID-19 student mobility 2021 update

Given the ongoing situation with the global spread of COVID-19 and the introduction of various public health measures and travel restrictions, Macquarie University will only be opening Virtual International Programs for the December-January session.

Please contact our team if you would like to discuss this further: Macquarie Abroad at mi.exchange@mq.edu.au.

We look forward to resuming activity and offering you more opportunities in 2021.

The Macquarie Abroad Team

There are different types of overseas study programs which vary based on the nature of the agreement between Macquarie University and the overseas partner university. Below is a brief description of each program type.

Length of program

Short-term

Short term exchange programs are usually held during the session breaks in June-August or December-February. They are typically two to four weeks in duration and involve studying the equivalent of one to two Macquarie units in an intensive mode.

Semester

Full semester exchange programs are held in either the first or second half of the year (equivalent to Session 1 or Session 2 at Macquarie). You need to study a full-time load while on a semester program equivalent to three to four Macquarie units. .

Program type

Exchange

Can apply to both short-term and semester-length programs. These operate on a reciprocal basis, meaning that we both send students to the partner institution and receive their students in exchange. Students pay tuition fees to Macquarie University only; other non-tuition fees may still apply at the partner institution.

Study abroad

Can apply to both short-term and semester-length programs. These programs are not reciprocal and only involve Macquarie sending students to the partner institution. They may involve paying tuition and other fees to Macquarie University and/or the partner institution.

Faculty-led study tours

Applies to short-term programs only and involves Macquarie University academic staff taking groups of students to overseas partner institutions or to other locations overseas. They may involve paying tuition and other fees to Macquarie University and/or the partner institution. These programs may occur at any time during the year.

Language programs

May fit into any of the above categories and are run by the Department of International Studies in coordination with Macquarie Abroad. They primarily involve the study of language and culture at an overseas partner institution. They may involve paying tuition and other fees to Macquarie University and/or the partner institution.

Face-to-face mobility programs

Due to the current global situation and travel restrictions in place, Macquarie University will not be offering any face-to-face programs for the December 2020 to January 2021 session and during Session 1, 2021.

You are still encouraged to conduct your research and look at the below programs to prepare for your program when travel restrictions ease.
