Application process

Applications are open for the 2021 and 2022 academic years. Your application must be submitted before the census date of the intended study period.

Before applying

Check you meet the eligibility criteria. It is recommended you seek advice from the Faculty before submitting a Leave of Absence application via eStudent.

International students

International students on a student visa must apply for the Suspension of Study (SoS) if you wish to temporarily suspend your studies under compelling or compassionate circumstances.

How to apply

Domestic students

  1. Submit your Leave of Absence request before the census date of the study period you are taking a break from via eStudent.
  2. Select your course(s).
  3. Select the start and returning study period.
    • If you have previously applied for leave, the duration will be taken into consideration with the new request.
    • Note: Session 3, Winter Vacation, Full-year study periods do not require an application to take leave from study.
  4. Select the reason for the leave request:
    • Parental
    • Financial
    • Medical
    • Internship
    • Recreation
    • Study at another institution
    • Work commitments
    • Other
  5. Allow 5 to 10 business days for the process to be finalised. In peak periods, allow up to 20 business days for your application to be processed.
  6. Making changes to your application after submission requires an enquiry prior to your return date. Go to AskMQ and create a new enquiry – make sure to reference your Leave of Absence case number.
